Pre-Permit Tests
Before Applying for the RMV Learner’s Permit Test…
Tri-Town recommends that you study the Massachusetts Drivers Manual and complete our pre-permit tests.
Below is a list of helpful information you must know when applying/obtaining a learners permit:
- You must be at least 16 years old.
- You need to make an appointment with either the RMV or AAA.
- Provide documentation (Click here for a list of acceptable forms)
- A parent or legal guardian must be with you. (Under the age of 18)
- Fill out a learner’s permit application (Start application here)
The new Learner’s Permit Test is tougher than ever before, and more and more people need multiple attempts to pass it. At a charge of $30 per test, the cost of failing can add up fast.
Tri-Town recommends completing our 30 hour classroom portion before you attempt to take your learners permit test. This has proven to increase your chances of passing significantly.
Prepare for Success
You can purchase a number of our online pre-permit tests. Each test attempt will have 25 randomly selected questions of the same types that you’ll find on the RMV test. And you get 25 minutes to finish, just like with the RMV test. (Remember: A common reason for failure is an inability to complete the RMV’s questions in time.)
You’ll acquire the knowledge and confidence to increase your chances of passing the RMV test the first time. Plus, you’ll become a smarter, safer and more aware driver — today and for the rest of your life.

We recommend thoroughly reading the Massachusetts Drivers Manual to educate yourself about all relevant laws, rules, requirements, penalties and suspension periods.
